Every other Wednesday, Naturalist Kate will post a new video that highlights a local animal species to better understand their behaviors, natural history and significance in the environment. The two species highlighted this month will be painted turtles and red-winged blackbirds.

The most anticipated art show of the year welcomes a plethora of outstanding artists that are featured at the Annex Gallery throughout the fall. Typically, this exhibit is very competitive and draws thousands of visitors. This year, due to COVID-19 closures, the show will be displayed in the gallery and online.

Do you have a great idea for a scarecrow? Never created one, but want to try? Here's an opportunity for some free, family fun this fall!
Beginning October 13, Smithville Park will have all of the scarecrows on display. This is a great way to promote your business, civic group or organization, as our parks have never been more busy! Your scarecrow will be viewed by MANY visitors! The best part is that this year's entry is FREE! Each scarecrow will be hung at the park for visitors to see. Voting will be on Facebook! Monetary prizes to be announced! Registration: September 28-October 10. Installation must be completed by the end of day on October 11. Voting will begin on October 13. First place prize: $250, 2nd place: 150 and 3rd place: $75.
