Join a Ranger on a hike through Rancocas State Park. There will be two routes, a 3 mile hike and a 2 mile hike. The 3 mile route along the north and south branches of the Rancocas creek. This creek side trail will have you on a single track through hardwood oak flats and ridges, all while seeing the wonderful open marshland. This trail re-enters the forest with sights of Virginia Pines. This trail is a sandy woodland road turning into a creek side trail with slight elevation changes. The 2 mile trek consists of 2 trails. Starting at pine forest, the trail will turn into a sandy forest, between a large oak flat forest and a dense pine forest. It will precede through a tight, sandy track that rides along a small bluff overlooking a dense pine forest. This trail consists of sandy woodland road turning into tight mossy, rooted, and with slight elevation changes. Parking: 722 Rancocas Ave Hainesport NJ. Park along the right side of gravel road. Hike will begin at park kiosk at entrance.

When Art Smith moved to Mount Holly from Phoenix two years ago, he was immediately attracted to the waters of the creek and to those of the mill race. His first paintings here were of the Rancocas and he has continued to explore this subject with sketches and acrylic paintings. At the same time, Art became interested in the work of Mount Holly painter, Hugh Campbell. Art was inspired by his artistic interpretations of New Jersey landscapes, buildings, but most specifically, the Rancocas. Several of his paintings of the creek have been a visual reference for Art’s paintings. These paintings of the Rancocas Creek are his visual response to the beauty of these waters.
