When Art Smith moved to Mount Holly from Phoenix two years ago, he was immediately attracted to the waters of the creek and to those of the mill race. His first paintings here were of the Rancocas and he has continued to explore this subject with sketches and acrylic paintings. At the same time, Art became interested in the work of Mount Holly painter, Hugh Campbell. Art was inspired by his artistic interpretations of New Jersey landscapes, buildings, but most specifically, the Rancocas. Several of his paintings of the creek have been a visual reference for Art’s paintings. These paintings of the Rancocas Creek are his visual response to the beauty of these waters.

Dennis McDonald, author or the recently published “Smithville”, will speak about the process of collecting images for a photographic book. The illustrated lectures will include information on inventor and founder Hezekiah B. Smith, his factory, the surrounding village, the Star Bicycle, and the Mount Holly and Smithville Bicycle Railroad. The presentation is sponsored by the Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences Association. Registration requested.

Tours run continuously throughout the evening and begin at the Visitor Center and conclude with a visit to Mrs. Claus for a holiday story and treats.
