December 11, 2019, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences
Burlington County Natural Science Club Lecture Series. Presented by guest speaker Barb Bassett. In 2018, Barb spent ten days in Ecuador, mostly in the Galápagos Islands aboard the M/V Evolution on a Victor Emanuel Nature Tour. Lying 600 miles off mainland Ecuador, the remoteness of the islands has given life here the chance to evolve in its own direction. In addition to the special birds of the islands such as Galápagos Penguins, Flightless Cormorants, Waved Albatrosses, and of course “Darwin’s finches” of every shape and size, Barb will highlight some of the other curious creatures that make the Galápagos famous: marine and land iguanas, brilliant Sally Lightfoot crabs, and 500-pound Giant Tortoises. She will also take us underwater where the group identified over 50 fish species plus Pacific green sea turtles, Galápagos sea lions, and giant mantas.

November 7, 2019 - January 29, 2020 @ Warden's House Gallery
When Art Smith moved to Mount Holly from Phoenix two years ago, he was immediately attracted to the waters of the creek and to those of the mill race. His first paintings here were of the Rancocas and he has continued to explore this subject with sketches and acrylic paintings. At the same time, Art became interested in the work of Mount Holly painter, Hugh Campbell. Art was inspired by his artistic interpretations of New Jersey landscapes, buildings, but most specifically, the Rancocas. Several of his paintings of the creek have been a visual reference for Art’s paintings. These paintings of the Rancocas Creek are his visual response to the beauty of these waters.
