[ARCHIVED] Freeholder Deputy Director Singh Announces Upcoming Burlington County Events for 3/18 - 3/24

Pennington Park

Freeholder Deputy Director Balvir Singh announced that for the upcoming week there will be a variety of events taking place in Burlington County.

“Looking for a volunteer opportunity? Grab your family and friends and help keep our environment clean by participating in the park litter cleanup at Pennington Park,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Balvir Singh, liaison to the Department of Resource Conservation. “With more than 1,000 acres of developed parkland in the county, these events are a great way to get the community involved to keep our parks clean.”

Event: Meet the Langstaffs

Date and Time: Monday, March 18, 7:00 PM

Location: Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences, 307 High St., Mount Holly, NJ 08060

Join us at Langeland, the former home of James and Harriet Langstaff and their family. Hear about the family that resided here for more than 100 years. View the beautiful architecture, learn about their renowned gardens, and the family that made it all possible. Presented by Burlington County’s Museum Curator of History, Marisa Bozarth. Event: Read and React History Series

Date and Time: Tuesday, March 19, 2:00 PM

Location: Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences, 307 High St., Mount Holly, NJ 08060

This unique approach to history opens up discussion that compares events of the past to current events. A document will be provided for review. Open discussion on the material is encouraged but not required. You may come simply to experience various viewpoints on the subject. You never know where the conversation may lead. Event: Little Sprouts Preschool Gardening Club

Date and Time: Wednesday, March 20, 1:30 PM

Location: Rancocas Nature Center, 794 Rancocas Road, Westampton Township, NJ 08060

Getting the Garden Ready, Careful Composting - This gardening program for preschoolers, accompanied by an adult, focuses on gardens and plants, worms, mud, seeds, and work in the garden throughout the spring. Each meeting will focus on a different aspect of gardening. Please dress accordingly. Register online. There is no charge for this program, but participants have to be Rancocas Nature Center members. Event: Hump Day After Work Hike

Date and Time: Wednesday, March 20, 5:30 PM

Location: Rancocas Nature Center, 794 Rancocas Road, Westampton Township, NJ 08060

Like to hike, but don’t like doing it alone? Come out for a brisk hike in nature at the perfect time to enjoy spring’s awakening. We will enjoy the views week to week as the natural world comes alive again. There is no charge for this program, but donations are encouraged. Hikes continue each Wednesday through May.

Event: Burlington County Healthcare Industry Career Fair

Date and Time: Thursday, March 21, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Location: Rowan College at Burlington County, Student Success Center, 900 College Cir, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054

The Burlington County Health Care Industry Career Fair will be held on Thursday, March 21 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Student Success Center. Job Seekers please: Arrive professionally dressed. Bring multiple copies of resumes. Must be at least 18 years of age to participate. No children please This event is presented by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders in partnership with the Workforce Development Institute. Event: Addiction Support Group Meeting

The Board of Chosen Freeholders is partnering with Ashley Addiction Treatment to host Addiction Support Group Meetings on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of every month from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. The individual battling addiction isn’t the only one in need of healing. Parent & Family Connection is a safe, professionally-facilitated resource for family members and parents/guardians that have a child or loved one in recovery or actively using. It’s a place to share support, wisdom, and perspective to help cope with the collateral effects of addiction.

Event: Nature Adventures for Preschoolers

“The Salamander Room” – Spring marks the end of hibernation and salamanders are out and about. This Friday indoor and outdoor program gets its weekly theme from a storybook! Geared for preschoolers ages 3-5 accompanied by a parent or guardian, each session will include the reading of a nature-themed picture book and a short weather dependent hike. Register online. Event: Animal Profile: American Woodcock

Date and Time: Friday, March 22, 6:30 PM

Location: Pennington Park, 801 Creek Road, Delanco, NJ 08075

During this walk that coincides with sunset and a full moon, learn about the American Woodcock and the area that was modified at the park to enhance its habitat. Look and listen for the woodcock’s unusual behaviors performed at dusk. Bring binoculars and a flashlight. Led by Naturalist Jen Bulava. To register click here.

Event: Clean Communities and Park Litter Cleanup

Date and Time: Saturday, March 23, 9:00 AM

Location: Pennington Park & Newton’s Landing, 801 Creek Road, Delanco, NJ 08075 Volunteers are needed to help keep our environment clean and green! Participants can experience nature in this 140-acre park and enjoy views of the Rancocas Creek while cleaning up litter. Individuals, groups, and organizations are welcome. Bags, gloves, and grabbers will be provided along with light refreshments and a water jug to refill your reusable water bottle. Event: Burlington County Rooted in Agriculture

Take a cinematic trip down back roads and farmers lanes and meet some of the families who defined agriculture in Burlington County in the early part of the 20th century. This 90-minute documentary explores what made Burlington County so important in establishing New Jersey as the Garden State. Discover how Burlington County fed the region, from New York to Philadelphia, and how the family farmer had to adapt over time to survive. Registration requested. To register click here.

Burlington County residents will once again have an opportunity to recycle their confidential documents at the first free paper shredding event of the year on Sunday, March 24, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burlington County Resource Recovery Complex. The event, hosted by Board of Chosen Freeholders and the County’s Recycling Office. Confidential documents acceptable for on-site shredding include bank and credit card statements, tax returns, and papers with account numbers or social security numbers. Please, NO binders, plastic folders, computer disks or plastic credit cards. This free event is for Burlington County residents only. ID is required. No businesses, please.

Event: Cooking Class: Eat the Rainbow Nutrition and Agriculture

Join Elyse from Farmers Against Hunger and Jeanne, Registered Dietitian from Virtua, for a hands-on workshop, designed for ages 7-10, that features cooking and nutrition lessons focused on colorful NJ-grown fruits and vegetables. Class will consist of 3 components: planting, nutrition and cooking. Participants will discover why New Jersey is nicknamed “The Garden State”, acquire an appreciation for agriculture, gain knowledge about food sources and plant anatomy, and learn how they get from farm to table. Students will be introduced to healthy eating guidelines and basic cooking concepts, and learn how they can help care for themselves, others and their environment by making smart food choices. $30 per person. Event: Hugh Campbell Collection Art Exhibit

MOUNT HOLLY IN THE MID-20TH CENTURY THROUGH THE EYES OF HUGH H. CAMPBELL - Hugh H. Campbell was a man of many talents. He expressly captured his own view of Mount Holly via his paintbrush. He was an artist, published author and philosopher who lived an extremely minimalistic life. Learn more about him and see select works from the Hugh H. Campbell Collection.

Event: Exhibit: Willingboro Art Alliance Open Show
