BURLINGTON COUNTY 101: THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, 1777-1778

Wednesday, October 21, 2020

Part two of The American Revolution sees more losses for Washington’s army in Pennsylvania, at Brandywine and Germantown. In November of 1777, an army is assembled in Mount Holly for the purpose of regaining the recently taken Fort Mercer. Find out who the two famous generals were who spent a week in Burlington County assembling this force. In 1778, the British, fearing the French fleet would blockade the Delaware River, had to evacuate Philadelphia, and return to New York. For five days the 15,000-man British army rampaged their way through Burlington County before encountering Washington’s rejuvenated army at the Battle of Monmouth.
