Part two of The American Revolution sees more losses for Washington’s army in Pennsylvania, at Brandywine and Germantown. In November of 1777, an army is assembled in Mount Holly for the purpose of regaining the recently taken Fort Mercer. Find out who the two famous generals were who spent a week in Burlington County assembling this force. In 1778, the British, fearing the French fleet would blockade the Delaware River, had to evacuate Philadelphia, and return to New York. For five days the 15,000-man British army rampaged their way through Burlington County before encountering Washington’s rejuvenated army at the Battle of Monmouth.

Lace up your hiking boots and join Naturalist Jen Bulava on a hike at Crystal Lake. Learn about some of the interesting trees and shrubs found at Crystal Lake, some of which are not found in our other County Parks. Experience the brilliant orange and gold foliage around the lake. This hike includes some steep slopes as well as one short flat paved portion. Please wear proper footwear with treads for hiking on uneven, slippery, and root-laden terrain. This program will repeat on Saturday October 24. Strict limited number of people enforced, and masks required. Register online.

Learn about raptor adaptations, behaviors, migration patterns and conservation efforts to bring endangered species back from the brink of extinction. Presented by Park Naturalist Jen Bulava. In this new PowerPoint presentation, learn about some of the invasive species of insects that have made their way to NJ, how to recognize them, how they got here, and what we can do to help diminish their spread. Spotted lanternfly, emerald ash borer, Japanese beetle, Hemlock wooly adelgid, gypsy moth, and brown marmorated stink bug will be highlighted. This video will be available beginning September 29 on our website. After viewing the video on your own time, join us live on Zoom for Questions and Answers sessions on September 30 at 2:30pm or October 8 at 7:30pm.

The most anticipated art show of the year welcomes a plethora of outstanding artists that are featured at the Annex Gallery throughout the fall. Typically, this exhibit is very competitive and draws thousands of visitors. This year, due to COVID-19 closures, the show will be displayed in the gallery and online.

Jonny Buss, a handyman with the Burlington County Parks, creates abstract compositions through the use of digital data corruption, photocopy wheat paste and acrylic stenciling techniques. The aesthetic of his artwork is a commentary about the relationship between data, technology and contemporary society.
