  1. VISIONS ON THE RANCOCAS: ART SMITH

    November 7, 2019 - January 29, 2020 @ Warden's House Gallery

When Art Smith moved to Mount Holly from Phoenix two years ago, he was immediately attracted to the waters of the creek and to those of the mill race. His first paintings here were of the Rancocas and he has continued to explore this subject with sketches and acrylic paintings. At the same time, Art became interested in the work of Mount Holly painter, Hugh Campbell. Art was inspired by his artistic interpretations of New Jersey landscapes, buildings, but most specifically, the Rancocas. Several of his paintings of the creek have been a visual reference for Art’s paintings. These paintings of the Rancocas Creek are his visual response to the beauty of these waters.

  1. WILLIAM KNIGHT, ONE ARTIST: THREE MEDIA

    October 17, 2019 - December 1, 2019 @ Worker's House and Gallery

William has worked in oils, pastel, charcoal, watercolor and printmaking for fifteen years before spending a decade hypnotized by encaustic paint–an ancient Greek process using beeswax, damar varnish and pigment. In addition to Knight’s encaustic works, will be works in pastel and in art glass.  The pastel pieces, on hand-made paper, were painted in an olive grove planted around 1600 in Assisi, Italy.  The ancient, gnarled trees are an arresting sight.  Other pastels were made on extended visits to Venice, Paris, and Bermuda. Art glass, the third medium in this solo exhibition, makes strong use of mouth-blown glass with its unique patterns and swirling colors created in the mouth-blowing process.
