BC Lyceum

  1. The Tribal Realities of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape

October 20, 2018, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences

Refusing to leave their ancestral homeland, Nanticoke Lenni-Leanpe family clans remained in South Jersey when other Native American tribes were forced west. Fast forward to today, the history of the tribe continues to unfold . During the 1970s, self-governence shifted from tribal churches to a constitutional form of government. In this session, the last forty years will be considered, while paying attention to the cultural traditions that are being reclaimed in the present. Also, the tribe's relationship with Christianity and their political status with the state and federal governments will be explored. Refreshments will be served. This program is funded by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. Registration requested.

  1. Tractor Pull

    October 20, 2018, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM @ Burlington County Fairgrounds

Tractor Pulling is known as “the world’s heaviest motorsport.” The goal of tractor pulling is to determine the strongest machine and the best driver. Different to every other motorsport in the world, it is not about the speed, but distance pulled. Tractor pulling is a competitive motor sport in which modified farm tractors, modified tractors or trucks drag a metal sled along a prescribed course. The distance from start to finish is measured in thousandths of an inch and the tractor that pulls the sled the farthest distance is declared the winner. If more than one competitor reaches the full pull mark, a pull-off is held to determine a winner. Spectators are welcome. Visit for more information.
