Barker’s Brook Natural Resource Area hike The County Fairgrounds is open every day and known to most people, but the surrounding 600 acres of fields is normally closed to the public. Join Jen on a walk around the main section of Barker’s Brook Natural Resource Area, the sensitive grassland habitat that is home to a fantastic array of birds and other wildlife. Don’t miss your chance to access this special place that is otherwise restricted to viewing from the Fairgrounds parking lot.

    Join retired USGS geologist Pierre Lacombe on an introductory hike at this brand-new addition to our park system! Arney’s Mount is the highest natural point in Burlington County. The mount is an erosional remnant of the former elevated landscape of our county. Pierre will discuss the geology of this area as well as the quarried conglomerate used to build the Arney’s Mount Meeting House and most other early buildings in the area. Trails include paved and crushed stone surfaces.

Friends, neighbors, scout groups, businesses, and local organizations, have a great time and compete against each other to create “the Best Scarecrow Display.” Scarecrows of all varieties, some creepy and all creative, will line Park Avenue in Historic Smithville Park, in Eastampton, NJ for the month of October. Vote for your favorite scarecrow. Winners will be announced at 6:00 PM at this year’s Autumn Lands Festival on October 22nd.

    Improv continues to be one of the fastest growing performing arts in the US. It’s in movies, TV shows, Broadway, and now right here in Burlington! ComedySportz, the longest-running show in Philadelphia history, is bringing its Intro to Improv Workshop this summer to Burlington County Parks. This workshop is a great way for individuals to find their creative side, regardless of their performing experience. One of our experienced instructors will teach the students the basics of improv and how to play some of our favorite ComedySportz games. We'll teach you the basics: agreement (“yes, and-ing”), active listening, commitment, working as a team, taking risks, and being present in the moment, and then apply those skills to some of our favorite games like Try That On For Size, Dr. Know It All, and Advice Panel. You'll learn how to improvise in an inclusive and welcoming environment, and have lots of fun doing it. No two classes will ever be the same!
