Information on Reporting Dead Birds
Reporting a Dead Bird
Q. How can I report a sighting of dead bird(s) in my area?
A. DO NOT CALL 911!
If you must move the dead bird, make sure you use plastic gloves and place it in a double plastic bag. But, unless it is absolutely necessary,
DO NOT TOUCH IT!
Once bagged, place the bird on ice or in the refrigerator until it can be delivered to the Burlington County Animal Shelter or picked up by an Animal Control Officer.
Contact the Burlington County Health Department at 609-265-5515 or 609-265-5523.
Types of birds we are presently testing include Hawks, Crows, Blue Jays and Robins. We begin West Nile Virus testing April 15, and stop accepting specimens after the first frost of every year.
Below is a downloadable form that must accompany the dead bird.
