The Courts sets bail and changes are made (both increases and decreases) as time goes on. Also, when a person is incarcerated additional charges may come in from other jurisdictions which could affect the total amount of the bail. When you prepare to post bail, please check in advance with the Records office 609-265-5801/5802 to be certain that you are aware of all charges and the total amount needed (bails and fees) in order to prevent unexpected delays. Cash Bails can be posted (full bail or 10% option) plus the $30 filing fees (if required).
If you are posting the cash bail, you can use cash, a Postal Money Order or a Certified/ Cashiers Bank Check (we will verify the check through the bank). Note that if the inmate has money in his/her jail account - that too can be used to post bail by the individual submitting a request.
We now accept credit cards for bails at both facilities. Mastercard, Visa, Discover. NO AMERICAN EXPRESS!!
Real Estate Bails are only conducted Mondays thru Friday (excluding weekends and
holidays) from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. All Real Estate Bails are filed at the Burlington County Detention Center; this also includes all inmates housed at the Corrections and Work Release Center (males and females).
You must also have an additional $20,000 (bail is set at $150,000, therefore it is $150,000 + $20,000 = $170,000) in equity for the bail. Your property must be in the state of New Jersey only.
It is your option to hire a Bail Bond Agency to post the bail. You can find phone listings for Bail Bond Agencies in the yellow pages of the telephone book.
The Bail Source Law (N.J.S.A. 2A:162-13) was effective June 1, 2007. That statute as amended requires that an individual charged with a "crime with bail restrictions" as defined in NJ.S.A. 2A:163-12, complete a form promulgated by the Attorney General detailing the source of the bail funds, and that the completed form be provided to the Prosecutor before the individual can be released on bail. If the Prosecutor requests a hearing in a case involving a bail-restricted crime, the court must hold a hearing. The bail source form is available online at:
